I think it's safe with a curling iron that has a low, low heat setting because yes, the hair will melt or get "frizzies." But are you sure they didn't just use a curler?

:mlp I have never used a curling iron on my ponies or any plastic hair, but I have several friends who have used them on MLP. I also have a friend that used one on some Cornsilk CPKs as well. As long as you use the curling iron at a very low setting & for just a quick bit, it should be alright. ;)

Another method that I use is just wetting the hair a bit & curling a straw or pencil around the hair & pinning it in place, leaving it over night or a few days. I like this method cuz it is more safe & works very nicely. You can make small or big curls depending on how much you curl it around the straw & how much hair you use in each section you are doing. :)

I haven't used a curling iron either, but I have used the curler method as 1u11abye 1ambie and Tickled Sunrise both mentioned with beautiful results. Though, my experience was with Strawberry Shortcake dolls.
